Some Days, A Little Perspective Helps

Another ELL teacher in our distict asked some of her ELL students what they were thankful for this year. Here are some of the responses:

*I am thankful for my parents because they take care of me. My mom buys me stuff. I am thankful for not walking to every place like I did in Somalia so I go in the car here and don't get so tired. I am thankful war not going around here.

*I am thankful for the parents I have and another reason I'm thankful is that I get to be in a place of a lot of opportunity's. Another thing is that I'm living.

*I am thankful for the opportunity to be an American. I am thankful for God for being there for me. I am thankful for my food because I have more here and always eat every day. I'm also thankful for people like you help me in life. Because life is a strange world but people help me through it.

And I am thankful that God humbles me and reminds me I am not thankful enough.

I REALLY Love These Pants

Those of you who really know me will see what a big deal this is. Frankly speaking, I'm frugal. I rarely spend more than $20 on any one article of clothing, including shoes. And even more honestly, my goal on shirts is $10 or less.

However, when Terry and I were in Dallas last weekend, I saw these sweat pants. I was immediately smitten. But, if you clicked the link, you can see my dilemma. For that $78 price tag I could easily get two pairs of Fila sweats (with cutie patootie silver trim I might add) and two matching hoodies at Kohl's. And if I score a 20% or 30% additional savings, it could be less.

On the one hand I rarely spend this kind of money on myself. For one article of clothing anyway. Oh sure, I've dropped my fair share decorating the house or things for the girls....but I can't stop thinking about these stupid sweats and how I would look so uber cute in them.

One more thing, if I do buy them, I will feel the need to wear them a lot. =) Have to get my money's worth and all.

So, what do you think ladies (and any gents that may be lurking) splurge or not? I will need some new sweats regardless by the way.

Turkey Dinner Thrice?

The thing about being a teacher or even having kids in school is the numerous times you will enjoy a traditional turkey dinner before Thanksgiving.

Yesterday was Reese's Thanksgiving feast at Staffkids. It was wonderful.

Today is the Thanksgiving feast at lunch through the cafeteria. Those women in the kitchen know how to make a yeast roll. I asked and received extras.

Next Tuesday is the Thanksgiving feast sponsored by the 1st grade. And seeing how Reia is in charge of cheese cubes, I feel I must attend.

So, I will eat turkey three times before the actual day of showing our thanks and gratitude by stuffing ourselves silly.

Just thought I'd mention it. Oh, those are my pants at the tailor being LET OUT by several inches.

I bring you good news of great tidings and joy.

I am able to access my blogger account from school! Of course, as soon as they find out I can blog from my desk, I'm sure it will be disabled once again.

Therefore, I'm going to take this moment to let everyone know how nuts my life is going to be for the next month or so. I do love the holidays, but going back to work has put a bit of a damper on my joy. I wasn't nearly as excited about decorating for Christmas this year. And that may be due in part, to the fact that decorating takes me a whole dad gum week. Who knows, maybe I'll pare down next year.

Nah. Moving on.

Reese's birthday was at the beginning of the month and Reia's will be Christmas Eve. I am the mother of 4 and 7 year olds. They helped decorate the tree with me for the first time this year. I just let them go to town and sat in the fetal position while chanting, "I will not rearrange. I will not rearrange. I will not rearrange."

And I didn't.

Except for the few (or twenty) ornaments that were hung RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. The nervous twitch in my eye finally went away this morning. I really am NOT OCD except for a few things. And I have no idea where it came from. My mom isn't OCD. My dad certainly isn't. I showed none of these tendencies until I met and married Terry. Hum. I'll have to think some more on this.

Moving on again. I wasn't planning on having Christmas (with family and all) at our house this year, but it seems that we will. Should be fun having my parents and mother in law in town. And now I have another list of the grocery variety to work on.

One day I will stop with all the rambling posts. I do have things to talk about. But can't seem to focus on any of them right now.

So, y'all have a great Thanksgiving and hope to catch some of you in the middle of Christmas madness that will begin in a week or so, if it hasn't for your family already.

Feels Good To Be Back!

I am happy to be back at my original bloggy home. I have some updating to do. The first of which is changing my blog skin. Although I love this one, The Cutest Blog on the Block ladies have some adorable things on their site.

Secondly, I have my blog roll to update over there. So, if you don't see yourself listed, I will get to it soon. Ok, eventually. =)

Right now I'm looking at all of the Christmas figurines and thinking, "Huh. That sure is a lot of Santas and snowmen I have to find a place for." Maybe, just maybe, I need to stop buying Christmas stuff. (Meanwhile, Terry just had giddiness sweep over his whole body and has no idea why.)

Can't wait to get on the blogger homepage and find all the new stuff they have added since I was last here. And I have an exciting introduction to make in a few days, so keep checking back!
