My Face

Every once in a while, my skin, particularly on my face, just goes crazy. I have the worst breakouts I've had since I was pregnant. (No, that's not it.) I have even gotten out the clearasil because I can't get it under control.

So, what I am wondering is does anyone have any homemade sure-fire cure alls for deep, underground, not going away, face hurting pimples?

I read that using Calamine lotion works...check out the internet because it has some stuff on it! Also, I have some Salacylic Acid stuff at my house! Let me know if you want to try it!

I had the same problem! My skin was never the same during/after pregnancy.

On one particularly awful skin day I was walking through the mall with my mom. We happened to stop by the Clinique counter and I asked if they had anything that would help. By coincidence the regional bigwig was there and she took over… She told me that my skin had completely changed and that I was using ALL of the wrong things (and they were all Clinique things). She pulled one bottle out after another and put me on a different regimen. She said the reason that women break out is a lack of moisturizer. That I should apply moisturizer (water based) three times a day. Now I have oily skin so I started arguing with her but she was insistent that the more products you use to control the oil the more breakouts that you’d have. That I should be doing the opposite of what I had been doing. I thought she was loony and just out to make a huge sale. But my mom, who took pity on me, bought everything she suggested. Guess what? NOT one pimple within three days. And I haven’t had a breakout since and it’s been over two years. And I cannot live without moisturizer!

Seek professional help. I see a dermatologist and it has made a huge difference! A $20 co-pay and a couple of prescriptions later, and I'm a new woman. They might want you to take antibiotics for a while, but I skip that part and see if the topical stuff works first - it almost always has. No more guesswork or buying tons of products that don't work. If I have an occasional flare-up, I use some tea tree oil on a cottton ball.

Washing my face three times a day and then applying 2% Salacylic acid. When I keep this up my skin looks better, but its hard for me to stick to it. (You might want to work up to this though because it really can dry your face out.)

Homemade cure all huh? Well, when I was in high school my friends and I used toothpaste. I had seen on some talk show where a lady had said if your out of town when you get a pimple, put some toothpaste on it and keep it on overnight. It seemed to work then, but I haven't done it since.

I think Lori's probably right, although for some reason I never go to the dermatologist when I need to. I've tried pro-activ (a copy cat product) and it helped a little but I bet a dermatologist would fix you up good. In fact, I'm inspired to go, since I think I have a tiny bit of rosatia on my cheeks.

I know this post is from ages ago, but I cannot live without my Avon clinical peel 2-step. I know I'm only 25 and probably don't "need" a chemical peel, but it gets rid of the old scars and keeps the new skin nice & clear. Tip: buy it on ebay and save about 50% :)
